A charity paddle race raising funds for Austin Pets Alive!'s Parvo Puppy Program, with participants paddling Lady Bird Lake in kayaks, canoes or stand-up paddleboards.
Paddle for Puppies returns to Rowing Dock on Sunday, August 9, for its 15th year. It's a charity paddle race on Lady Bird Lake that brings together dog lovers and paddlers to raise money for Austin Pets Alive! and their Parvo Puppy Program.
Parvo is a highly contagious virus, but it's entirely treatable, and the program gives hundreds of puppies a second chance at life every year. 100% of all registration and rental fees go directly toward the intensive medical care these pups need to survive and thrive. Presented by Austin Subaru, the morning has become a local tradition: participants pick a kayak, canoe, or stand-up paddleboard and paddle the lake together. Dogs are allowed on the water with a signed waiver, so you can bring yours along for the ride. Each registration includes a complimentary event T-shirt and free breakfast tacos and coffee.

Registration and check-in run from 6:45 AM to 8:00 AM, and the paddle itself is from 8:00 AM to 9:45 AM. The event is at Rowing Dock, 2418 Stratford Dr. in Zilker Park. Parking is in the large gravel lot east of Mopac, a five to ten minute walk to the dock, with limited first-come, first-served spaces under the Mopac bridge; ride-sharing, biking, or CapMetro are recommended. Registration is $45 to $150, depending on the watercraft option you choose.
