The 10th edition of the Hill Country Turkey Trot, a 5K and 1-mile charity race benefiting the Lake Travis Education Foundation.
The Hill Country Turkey Trot returns to Serene Hills Elementary on Thursday, November 26, 2026. This is the tenth anniversary of the race, which the Lake Travis Education Foundation has turned into a family tradition over the last decade. All the funds raised go to the foundation, which supports schools across the Lake Travis ISD.
It's a morning that builds on itself. The park-and-shuttle service opens from 7 AM to 8 AM, and by 8 AM the line-up for the 5K and 1-Mile begins. A pre-race program kicks off at 8:10 AM, and the kids 5K starts at 8:25 AM. The main 5K run/walk and the 1-Mile both get underway at 8:30 AM, with awards and a celebration following at 9:15 AM. If you're coming with a group, the kids' start gives the little ones their own moment before the larger field takes off.
One thing that sets this apart from your typical race is who actually shows up. Walkers make up about 75% of the field, so it's less of a sprint and more of a community stroll. If you're out of town on Thanksgiving, you can still join virtually and you'll still get a commemorative Hill Country Turkey Trot t-shirt.

Logistics are handled with a shuttle system to keep things moving. The race is at Serene Hills Elementary (3301 Serene Hills Dr, Austin, TX 78738), but parking and shuttles run from Lakeway Elementary (1701 Lohman's Crossing Rd, Austin, TX 78734) and Lakeway Church (2203 Lakeway Blvd, Lakeway, TX 78738). With the shuttle opening at 7 AM and the main races starting at 8:30 AM, there's plenty of time to get settled before the first gun goes off.
