A week-long celebration of a decade at the Monks Jazz Club, featuring live tapings and listening-room concerts with Nicholas Payton, Jon Deas and more.
Monks Jazz Club is celebrating ten years in Austin with a week of live tapings and listening-room concerts, starting Monday, September 21, at 310 E. Saint Elmo in Austin South. The celebration runs through September 27, with the club bringing back artists and friends who helped make the venue what it is. The whole series is presented by The Jazz Purveyor with support from The Live Music Society.
Opening night is led by Nicholas Payton, the New Orleans multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, and cultural theorist. He's a Grammy winner whom the club describes as one of the most significant musical voices of his generation, and he'll be performing with the Monks Jazz Orchestra. The rest of the week fills in with a wide range of jazz: HAAM Day with Jon Deas; Benny Green; Mike Sailors and Elena Diaz; Jalen Baker and Jessica Healey; Elias Haslanger and Tito Carrillo; and Mercedes Solis and Bruce Saunders.

It's a full week of music rather than a single night, so you can drop in for one set or spread it across several days. The opening night on September 21 runs from 7:30 to 9 PM and 9:30 to 11 PM, and the rest of the celebration continues through September 27, with shows running from 7:30 to 11 PM. Tickets are $37.83 to $42.95.
