Finale of Carol Welter's psychological thriller about a billionaire's queer sanctuary and a vendetta born of childhood trauma.
Carol Welter brings Utopia to 7 Stages Theatre from November 6 to 8, the final installment of her psychological thriller. Welter wrote and directed the piece, and Winston Wilson hosts. It's the finale of the series, billed as the chilling climax of the year's most provocative stage thriller.
The story centers on Guy Forks, a ruthless billionaire who built the Windermere sanctuary as a queer paradise. But that sanctuary is under threat: a lethal, aerosolized vendetta, born of deep-seated childhood trauma, is closing in. Welter describes it as a high-stakes thriller exploring power, sexuality and self-destruction, one in which vengeance threatens to consume everything.
It's staged in the 7 Stages Black Box as part of the Courageous Creativity series. 7 Stages is an Atlanta non-profit that's been bringing local, national and international emerging artwork of social, political and spiritual importance to the city since 1979, and it's spent more than 40 years as a haven for new works and collaborative methods.
