A guided walking tour exploring the trees, trails, history and architecture of Atlanta's historic Grant Park, including the Lion Bridge and Milledge fountain.
Trees Atlanta is leading a guided tour through Grant Park on Saturday, October 17, from 10 AM to 11:30 AM. It's a walk that looks at the park's trees, trails, history, and architecture, and it's free to join.
Grant Park is Atlanta's oldest park, donated to the city by Lemuel Pratt Grant in 1882. The tour winds its way through the canopy and stops at a few of the park's historic and architectural highlights, including the Lion Bridge and the Milledge fountain. Both were recently restored by the Grant Park Conservancy, which also takes care of the park's trees—a mix of oaks, elms, maples, and magnolias. Trees Atlanta and the Atlanta Preservation Center are partnering with the Conservancy to support their work in the park.
Before you sign up, there are a couple of practical things to keep in mind. The walk covers about two miles of uneven walkways and steep grades, so you'll want comfortable shoes and a bit of stamina. Registration is required through the Atlanta Preservation Center, so don't just show up on the day.
