An immersive Halloween improv show where the audience witnesses an asylum unraveling in real time, with adult language and content.
Spring Street Asylum opens at Whole World Improv Theatre on Saturday, Oct 31, from 8 PM to 10 PM. It's an immersive improv show that puts you inside the asylum during visiting hours, where orderlies, patients, and staff interact in real time as the institution unravels right in front of you. The whole thing is built on the fly, so you're watching the chaos unfold as it happens.
It comes from Seek the Truth, the same team behind Night of the Living Improv and The Improv Cult Show, so if you've seen their previous work, you've got an idea of the territory they're playing in. This one takes that immersive approach and runs with it—instead of just sitting in a seat and watching a scene, you're part of the environment. The performance runs in two sets with a 10-15 minute intermission, for a total of 75-80 minutes. It's intended for a mature audience, with adult language and content, so keep that in mind if you're bringing a group.
As for the venue, Whole World Improv Theatre is the flagship of improv comedy in Atlanta, right in the heart of Midtown. They've been around since 1994, and their award-winning ensemble builds an original show four nights a week with the audience's help. Beyond the main stage, they also run classes for adults and kids and handle corporate events. This particular show is part of their Halloween lineup, and they've leaned into the theme with the description: admission is voluntary, and discharge is not guaranteed.
