Second night of the Simply Weird Film Festival, with short horror, sci-fi, animation and experimental films at Red's Beer Garden.
Simply Weird Film Fest returns to Red's Beer Garden on Monday, October 26, for its sixth edition. This is day two of the festival, which screens 38 independent short films across two nights. The whole thing is run by director Sean Osorio and produced by River Bear Films, and it's built around shorts that are bold, bizarre and brilliantly strange.
The programming doesn't stick to one corner of the map. It pulls from horror, horror-comedy, science fiction, animation, documentary, mockumentary and experimental work, with a maximum runtime of 15 minutes per film. Selected filmmakers get festival passes. The awards are where the festival's sense of humor really comes through: the Golden Weird Wiener Award is voted on by the audience and is described as forged in the neon fires of absurdity and blessed by the ghost of a 1950s hot dog vendor. The jury handles the Best of the Fest Trophy, which is crafted by local Atlanta artist Evereman. Red's Beer Garden has been the venue partner for the last two editions, and the festival's artwork is by Manic Lawd.
