A day of horror-themed workshops, screenings and conversations at SCADshow, featuring industry experts and exclusive screenings, with free admission for SCAD cardholders and alumni.
SCADshow is hosting SCADFILM In Focus: Art of Fear on Friday, October 16, a full day dedicated to the horror genre across film, television and streaming. The program comes on the heels of SCAD launching a new horror minor through the SCAD School of Film and Acting, one of The Hollywood Reporter's Best Film Schools. SCADFILM director Mollie Brock describes horror as one of the most resilient genres in entertainment, driving some of the most ambitious, boundary-pushing work today.
The day brings together creators, industry experts and fans for panel discussions, exclusive screenings and behind-the-scenes looks at how fear is crafted for film, television and immersive experiences. It kicks off at noon on Stage 2 with Netherworld co-founder and creator Ben Armstrong, who presents Crafting the Nightmare: 30 years of NETHERWORLD. At 2:30 PM, Stage 2 hosts visualization supervisor Jason Thielen of The Third Floor for Creating Fear with The Third Floor. The action then moves to the Main Stage, where series creator, writer and showrunner Brad Caleb Kane leads Screening and Conversation: Welcome to Crystal Lake at 5 PM, followed by a screening of Friday the 13th at 7:30 PM.
Between the talks and the screenings, the day leans into the campy side of the genre, with camp-themed snacks and bug juice served before the final screening of the night. It's a good way to see the different sides of horror in one go, from the immersive world-building of Netherworld to the technical visualization of The Third Floor and the slasher legacy of Friday the 13th.
