Screening of the Walt Disney fantasy 'Darby O'Gill and the Little People', with the Rialto's upgraded digital projector, screen and sound system.
Darby O'Gill and the Little People screens at the Rialto Center for the Arts on Wednesday, March 17, 2027, as part of the Rialto Film Series. It's a Disney fantasy based on Irish folklore, and the date is St. Patrick's Day, so it's a fitting time to catch it. The Rialto Film Series brings classics and longtime favorites back to the big screen in downtown Atlanta, and this screening runs on the venue's upgraded digital projector, screen, and sound system.
The story follows a wily old codger who matches wits with the King of the Leprechauns while playing matchmaker for his daughter and the strapping lad who replaced him as caretaker. He swears he's befriended the King, but no one believes him. The New York Times called it a "charming concoction of standard Gaelic tall stories, fantasy and romance."
It's a Disney production with some recognizable names. Irish-born actor Albert Sharpe takes the lead, and Janet Munro gives a Golden Globe-winning performance. Sean Connery also stars, in his first starring and singing role. If you've only known him as Bond, this is a different side of him entirely.
