Free nature photography meetup led by professional photographer Don Orkoskey to explore the wildlife and plants of Piedmont Park.
Don Orkoskey is leading a nature photography meetup at Piedmont Park on Saturday, November 21, from 9 AM to 11 AM. It's a free event open to everyone, so you don't need to book a ticket or pay a thing to join in.
Orkoskey, who runs WDO Photography, describes the morning as a way to discover the wild side of Atlanta right in the heart of Midtown. The walk covers a good range of subjects: the wide views of Lake Clara Meer on one end and the tiny details of native plants and fungi on the other. It's open to anyone with a camera, whether that's a smartphone, a film camera, or professional gear, and you don't need any prior experience to take part. Along the way, you can pick up some photography tips and connect with other nature lovers while exploring the local ecosystem together.
It's a good chance to see the park from a different angle. Piedmont Park is managed by the Piedmont Park Conservancy, a nonprofit that's been working with the City of Atlanta since 1989. Over the years, the Conservancy has raised and invested more than $60 million in park improvements and now handles over 90% of the park's overall maintenance and security. Recent additions include the Legacy Fountain, a pool, an expanded dog park, and new lawns, so there's plenty to look at beyond the nature shots.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Atlanta and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

Orkoskey has run WDO Photography since 2007 and hosts free nature photography meetups at the park every month, so this is one of a regular series rather than a one-off. The meetup runs from 9 AM to 11 AM on Saturday, November 21, at Piedmont Park, 400 Park Drive, Atlanta, GA 30306, and it's free for everyone.
