Free outdoor Halloween movie screening of 'Halloween Town' on the lawn at Ashford Lane, open to the public.
Movies Under the Stars is back at Ashford Lane this Friday, October 16, with Halloween Town on the big screen. It's part of an outdoor film series that runs on Friday nights through October at the open-air shopping center in Dunwoody, and this particular screening is free and open to the public.
This is one of four Halloween-themed movies they've lined up for the month. The series kicked off on October 2 with Hotel Transylvania, followed by Scooby Doo on October 9. After Halloween Town this Friday, they'll close things out on October 23 with Hocus Pocus. If you've already missed the first couple, there's still time to catch the rest of the run.
The screenings happen on the lawn, which has become a go-to free event space for the area. It's run by CTO Realty Growth's marketing director Autry Graham and event producer Bari Holmes, a Dunwoody High School class of 1994 graduate who runs Pivotal. After COVID, the company redeveloped the site—where Cheeseburger in Paradise and Outback Steakhouse once stood—into a community green space. The events are free and charitable-first: for S'more the Merrier, scheduled for December 12, Ashford Lane pays for the s'mores kits and a local nonprofit keeps all the money. The lawn is open container and dog-friendly, with dog-waste stations on site. Host Matt Weber, a Dunwoody REALTOR, also revived Dunwoody Idol, a local youth singing competition that's due back in March 2027. The strategy has paid off for the surrounding businesses, too—during an event window, the on-site restaurant Superica saw a 30% sales increase.
