Free outdoor screenings of G, PG and PG13 films at dusk in various Atlanta parks, with make-up dates in October.
Movies in the Park is back for another summer, with the Atlanta Department of Parks and Recreation bringing free outdoor screenings to parks across the city. It's one of those Atlanta summer staples that's hard to beat: free movies, open air, and no tickets or sign-ups required. The films are rated G, PG, or PG13 and billed as family-friendly, so it's an easy one to bring the kids to.
The screenings run every Friday and Saturday throughout August, starting at dusk. The lineup kicks off Friday, August 7, with Michael (PG13), followed by GOAT (PG) on Saturday, August 8. The second weekend brings Incredibles (PG) on Friday, August 14, and The Lego Batman Movie (PG) on Saturday, August 15. The third weekend is a bit more mixed: The Magnificent 7 (PG13) on Friday, August 21, and Zootopia 2 (PG) on Saturday, August 22. The series wraps up with The Book of Clarence (PG13) on Friday, August 28, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (PG) on Saturday, August 29. A couple of those Friday nights—The Magnificent 7 and The Book of Clarence—are 18+ screenings only, so keep that in mind if you're planning a family night.
The movies aren't all in one spot; they rotate through various Atlanta parks. You'll find screenings at the C.T. Martin Rec Center front field, Knight Park, Grant Park, Kathryn Johnston Park, Center Hill Park, Benteen Park, West Manor Park, and Atlanta Memorial Park. Since they're outdoors, the best move is to bring your own blankets, lawn chairs, and snacks. If the weather turns, there are make-up dates in October to make sure the films still get their run.
