Free screening of the Palestinian documentary 'A State of Passion' at the Alif Institute's Movie Nights, with an optional light lunch and a live Q&A with the film directors via Zoom after the screening.
Alif Institute is screening A State of Passion on Sunday, December 6, as part of its Movie Nights series. The film is a 2024 Palestinian documentary by Carol Mansour and Muna Khalidi, and it runs about an hour and a half. It follows Dr. Ghassan Abu Sittah, a British-Palestinian reconstructive surgeon who became a face of Palestinian resistance after spending 43 days working under bombardment in the emergency rooms of Al Shifa and Al Ahli hospitals in Gaza.
Mansour and Khalidi are close friends of the Abu Sittahs, and they followed him through Beirut, Amman, London, and Kuwait, drawn by their shared passion for Palestine. The film is shown in Arabic and French with English subtitles, and it's followed by a live Q&A with the film directors via Zoom. That's the usual format for Movie Nights, which presents films from and about the Arab world.
