One-off blues night with Jontavious Willis leading an ad-hoc supergroup of local and regional musicians, 21 and over.
Jontavious Willis is putting together a one-off show at Blind Willie's on Sunday, November 1, calling in friends from across the region to form a temporary supergroup he's calling The Blues Crusaders. It's a single night, not a tour, and Willis is curating the whole thing himself. The lineup brings together musicians from a few different corners of the blues world.
Stephen Hull comes from Racine, Wisconsin; he started playing blues at 14 and draws on Albert King and B.B. King. Yella P is from Memphis and blends Delta and Hill Country blues with soul, gospel, funk and hip-hop. Nigel Speights hails from the Alabama Black Belt, where he began playing guitar at age 8 and was featured in the documentary series Alabama Black Belt Blues. Lloyd Buchanan has toured with Alabama Shakes, Oleta Adams and The Heavy, and has played alongside Tom Jones and Jools Holland. Rodrigo Montovani is a Blues Music Award winner from Chicago, and JD Dukes is a touring drummer for Drumline Live. The whole night is all blues, curated and approved by Willis.
