Immersive dance-theatre piece by Emma Morris Projects in which four dancers embody Past, Present, Future and In-Between to explore memory, time and personal stories.
Emma Morris Projects brings I hope we never Land to 665 Marietta St on Saturday, November 21, from 7:30 PM to 9 PM. It's an immersive dance-theatre piece that asks when memories become stories and when dreams become the present.
Four dancers embody different facets of time—Past, Present, Future, and In-Between—and work through complex partnering, physical phrase work, and improvisation. Music and personal essays blur the edges of reality, and projections by Jordan Young run alongside the movement. The whole thing runs about 55 minutes.
Morris describes the work as a gateway for new dance audiences, leaning on acting and text to make it accessible. She drew on the book Slaughterhouse-Five and her own experience of being "unstuck in time," as well as the loss of natural spaces in adulthood, bringing in themes of sustainability and the passage of time. The piece is recommended for ages 8 and over.
