Virtual graphic design studio for ages 12 to 17 in which young designers invent an ancient civilisation and create a poster or label with Canva.
Museum of Design Atlanta is hosting Graphic Design Studio: Hidden Histories on Thursday, November 5, from 4 PM to 6 PM. It's a virtual studio aimed at ages 12 to 17, so you'll be joining from home rather than heading into the city for this one.
The session starts with a look at how museums use graphic design to tell a story. You'll see how exhibition graphics, labels, and promotional displays turn a collection of objects into a coherent history for visitors to follow. Once you've got the hang of that, the creative part kicks in: you'll invent your own ancient civilization or a forgotten city from scratch, building out its history and culture as you go. From there, you'll use Canva to design a poster or an artifact label that introduces your discovery to the world, pulling together typography, illustration, symbols, maps, and historical detail to make it feel real.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Atlanta and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

It's a good way to see how the different pieces of design—the fonts, the layout, the imagery—work together to build a world. And since it's a studio, you're not just working in a vacuum. At the end of the session, everyone shares what they've made and gets feedback in a supportive environment, so you'll see how other people approached the same prompt. It's a two-hour window on a Thursday afternoon, November 5, from 4 PM to 6 PM, and since it's virtual, you can join in from wherever you are.
