New York City Ballet brings its 360-degree immersive version of George Balanchine's The Nutcracker to Cosm in Atlanta.
New York City Ballet brings George Balanchine's The Nutcracker to Cosm on Friday, November 13, at 7 PM. It's a 360-degree immersive production, which is a different way of seeing a ballet you probably already know. Instead of watching from a seat in a theater, you're inside the performance.
This particular version is Balanchine's The Nutcracker, the definitive American staging of the holiday classic. He first performed it in 1954, and it was later expanded with work by co-founder Jerome Robbins. Set to Tchaikovsky's score, it's one of the company's most famous pieces, drawing more than 100,000 people to Lincoln Center every year. This Shared Reality version was filmed at the David H. Koch Theater during NYCB's 2025-26 season, adapted and directed by Philippe Safir. The scenery is by Rouben Ter-Artunian, the costumes by Karinska, and the lighting by Mark Stanley, based on Ronald Bates's original design. The production is billed as a timeless classic faithfully preserved and beautifully reimagined.
The cast is a big one. Principal dancers Tiler Peck as the Sugarplum Fairy, Roman Mejia as the Cavalier, Mira Nadon as Dewdrop, Emma Von Enck as Marzipan, and Taylor Stanley as Herr Drosselmeier lead the way, joined by over 50 New York City Ballet dancers and 70 School of American Ballet students. The NYCB Orchestra provides the music, conducted by music director Andrew Litton.
