New York City Ballet's George Balanchine 'The Nutcracker' filmed for Cosm's 12K LED domes, placing the audience inside the production for the holiday season.
New York City Ballet brings The Nutcracker to Cosm on Friday, November 6, at 4:30 PM. It's George Balanchine's version, the one that's been a New York holiday staple since 1954, set to Tchaikovsky's score with Balanchine's original choreography and additional staging by NYCB co-founder Jerome Robbins. It's a production that usually draws over 100,000 people to Lincoln Center every year.
This isn't a live performance in the traditional sense. It was filmed during NYCB's 2025-26 season at the David H. Koch Theater and produced for Cosm's 87-foot-diameter, 12K+ LED domes. The screen wraps around you, putting you inside the production alongside the 41-foot Christmas tree, the Snow Scene, and the Land of Sweets. It's Cosm's first foray into ballet and the classical arts, and it's showing this holiday season at their Shared Reality venues in Atlanta, Dallas, Detroit, and Los Angeles.
The cast features NYCB principal dancers Tiler Peck as the Sugarplum Fairy, Roman Mejia as the Cavalier, Mira Nadon as Dewdrop, Emma Von Enck as Marzipan, and Taylor Stanley as Herr Drosselmeier. The NYCB Orchestra provides the music, conducted by music director Andrew Litton. The sets are by Rouben Ter-Artunian, costumes by Karinska, and lighting by Mark Stanley, all adapted and directed by Philippe Safir.
