Free family movie on The Plaza

The Battery Atlanta is showing Sing on the big screen at Plaza Green this Friday, October 23, as part of the Xfinity Fall Movie Series. It's a free outdoor screening, so you just bring a blanket or some lawn chairs and settle in on the grass under the stars. If you're coming with kids, it's a pretty easy night: the movie is free, and the whole thing is family-friendly.

Sing is just one stop in a long run of outdoor movies. The series started back on October 2 with Super Mario Galaxy Movie, followed by October Sky on the 16th. After Sing this Friday, there's Minions & Monsters on Sunday, October 25, and The Lorax on Friday, October 30. The lineup keeps going into November with Jurassic Park on the 6th, Wicked: For Good on the 13th, Shrek Forever After on the 20th, and The Grinch (the 2018 version) on Saturday, November 28.

One of the best parts about doing this at The Battery is that there are plenty of restaurants right there. You can grab some to-go food and make a picnic of it on the Plaza rather than worrying about a separate dinner plan. Parking is free for the first two hours in the Red, Purple, Yellow, and Green decks, which should be more than enough for a movie. Just a heads-up: coolers, outside alcohol, and glass containers aren't allowed, so keep that in mind when you're packing your bag.

Friday screenings usually start around 7 PM, so that's when you'll want to be getting settled. If you're planning for the later dates, keep an eye on the times: Minions & Monsters on Sunday, October 25, starts earlier at 5:30 PM, and The Grinch on Saturday, November 28, starts at 7:30 PM. Otherwise, it's free movies on the grass throughout the fall.
