A family-friendly Day of the Dead festival with music, crafts, food, and altars at Oakland Cemetery, hosted by the Institute of Mexican Culture and the Consulate General of Mexico.
Oakland Cemetery hosts the Day of the Dead festival on Sunday, November 1, from 12 PM to 5 PM. It's a family-friendly celebration put on by the Consulate General of Mexico and the Institute of Mexican Culture, and it's open to visitors of all ages.
The day is built around altars honoring lost family and friends, which are the center of the tradition. Around them, you'll find folkloric dances, crafts, and food. There's also a Catrinas and Catrines costume contest for adults and children, with registration on the day, so if you've got a costume ready, you can enter it right there.
It's a tradition that brings together a few different things at once: the altars for remembering, the dancing and food for celebrating, and the costume contest for anyone who wants to get involved. Since it's open to all ages, it works as a day out with the whole family.
