Second edition of Burnaway's annual art book and zine fair, with more than 100 small publishers, presses and artists, a Risograph workshop and a food truck.
Book//Zine returns to Goat Farm on Saturday, October 24, for its second edition. It's Burnaway's annual art book and zine fair, and this one is coming in larger than the first. The inaugural fair drew an estimated 1,000 people, and this year they're bringing together over 100 small publishers, presses, and artists under one roof.
The exhibitors aren't just local; they're coming from 30 cities across 16 states, with about 51 of them exhibiting for the first time. It's a competitive application process, so the tables are curated rather than open-call. Among the names on the list are Posy Press, who'll be running a Risograph workshop, and Blackstar Project, showing their Seen journal. Isaiah Erin Jones of JONES & I will have a traffic safety sign installation on display, and the Atlanta Center for Photography will release New South III, their third annual publication.
Burnaway's executive director Brandon Sheats describes the fair's beginning as a "leap of faith" he took with program and development manager Madeline Benfield. It's a small-press gathering in the truest sense—the kind of place where you can talk directly to the people making the books and zines they're selling. On the day, a food truck, coffee cart, and cash bar round out the program, so you can hang out and browse without having to leave for a break.
