Tribute concert by Ella Beth and Mr Jones & Co running through Amy Winehouse's 'Back To Black' to mark its 20th anniversary, with a 2006-style dress code.
Amy Again plays Smith's Olde Bar on Thursday, October 29, and the whole night is built around one record: Amy Winehouse's Back To Black. The album came out in 2006, and this show marks its 20th anniversary, running the record back to that year. Ella Beth takes the lead on vocals and walks the audience through the entire album and beyond, backed by the eight-piece Mr Jones & Co. There's a particular nod to Winehouse's appreciation for Motown and her contribution to soul in a modern era, so the set reaches past the album's tracklist.
Mr Jones & Co fills out the sound with a full band: Travis Hall on backing vocals, Charity Nicole and Kath Fidler on horns, Norm Frank on horns, Dylan Porper on keys, Jacob Stueve on guitar, Chris Shannon on bass, and AJ John on drums. The night leans into the nostalgia with a 2006-style dress code, so if you've still got your mid-aughts gear, this is the time to dig it out.
Opening the bill is The Kollective, billed as Atlanta's rising powerhouse of young musicians. They blend R&B, funk, jazz, gospel, hip-hop, and pop, with electrifying horns and dynamic vocals. Between them and the main act, the horns will be a good part of the evening.
