Halloween party marking the centennial of the High Museum of Art, with a DJ set, a ghost-story storytelling session and a costume contest.
A Haunting at 100 is the High Museum of Art's Halloween party, happening Friday, October 30, from 6 PM to 10 PM. It's part of the museum's centennial year, which marks a century since Harriett 'Hattie' High donated her Peachtree Street residence to the city in October 1926. The party is one of several ways the museum is celebrating the milestone.
Inside, there's a bit of a split program. DJ Mudra Mami will be spinning in the Taylor Lobby, while storyteller Amanda Lawrence presents That Haint Right: Appalachian Ghost Stories in the Atrium. If you're coming in costume, there's a contest at 9 PM in the Taylor Lobby. Costumes aren't required, but they're strongly encouraged.
The centennial isn't just about the party. The museum has added new thematic installations in the American and African art galleries, more than 200 new acquisitions, and the survey exhibition Martin Puryear: Nexus. There's also a commemorative book and a new visual identity. The High is the leading art museum in the southeastern US, with over 13,000 works, including a deep anthology of 19th- and 20th-century American and decorative art, significant European paintings, a growing collection of African American art, and expanding holdings of modern and contemporary art, photography, and African art. It also established the David C. Driskell Prize in 2005, which in 2026 went to Cheryl Finley.
