Screenwriting masterclass presented by the New York Film Academy (NYFA) with instructor Randall Dottin, part of the American Black Film Festival Pop-Up tour.
Randall Dottin leads a screenwriting masterclass at AMC Madison Yards 8 on Saturday, October 24, as part of the American Black Film Festival Pop-Up. Dottin is an instructor at the New York Film Academy, and the session is presented by the academy. It's a deep dive into the fundamentals of screenwriting and the creative process, aimed at getting a story from a rough idea onto the page.
Over the course of the class, you'll walk through the practical side of building a script: how to develop a compelling story idea, how to build memorable characters, and how to structure a screenplay. There's also a focus on translating a creative vision into a finished draft, so it's as much about the craft as it is about the initial spark. If you've got a story in your head but aren't sure how to shape it into a screenplay, this is where you start.
The masterclass is part of the American Black Film Festival Pop-Up, the national expansion of the ABFF. The festival was founded by Jeff Friday in 1997 and is celebrating its 30th year. The Pop-Up tour is run by NICE CROWD, the live events company founded by Nicole and Jeff Friday, and is presented nationally by founding sponsor Ally Financial with HBO as National Presenting. It brings award-winning independent films, celebrity conversations, and curated panels to four U.S. markets: Atlanta, Washington D.C., New York, and Houston.
