21+ show of Acid Mothers Temple with Magick Potion and The N.E.C. at Star Bar on Moreland Avenue.
Acid Mothers Temple are playing Star Bar on Thursday, October 22, with Magick Potion and The N.E.C. opening for them. It's a triple bill presented by Speakeasy Promotions and Triple D's.
Acid Mothers Temple is the headliner, and they've been around since 1995, when they were founded by members of the Acid Mothers Temple soul-collective. Kawabata Makoto leads the group, and they describe themselves as a freak-out group for the 21st century. If you're not familiar, that's a pretty clear indication of where the night is headed: loud, sprawling, and not particularly interested in staying within the lines.
Magick Potion comes from the rural outskirts of Baltimore and plays as a heavy rock trio. They describe their sound as channeling the raw energy and heavy grooves of the late 1960s and early 1970s, so they'll be bringing a more traditional, riff-driven kind of weight to the stage before Acid Mothers Temple takes over. The N.E.C. rounds out the lineup.
