Free three-day practical workshop on collaborative creative practice led by sound artist Bill Thompson and dancer Penny Chivas, open to Scottish-based arts practitioners.
Something Different runs across Aberdeen City Centre venues from Monday 19 to Wednesday 21 October, a free three-day practical workshop on collaborative creative practice. It's led by sound artist and composer Bill Thompson and dancer and choreographer Penny Chivas, who bring two very different disciplines into the same room. The whole thing is run by sound, a new music incubator in North East Scotland that stages the annual soundfestival and a year-round composer support programme, and Citymoves Dance Agency, one of Scotland's longest-running dance development organisations, founded in 1987 and home of the DanceLive Festival. The workshop is made possible by the Creative Scotland Expanded Festivals Fund.
As for what actually happens, you'll work in ad hoc groups and respond in real time to creative prompts, with each group kept smallโup to six people. It's a practical session rather than a lecture, so you'll be doing rather than just listening. The workshop is open to Scottish-based dancers and choreographers, composers and performers, and other arts practitioners, so it's designed to bring together people from different backgrounds rather than keeping them in their own corners. Second-class travel within Scotland and accommodation are reimbursed, which makes it accessible if you're coming from outside the city.

The sessions run from 10am to 6pm each day, with an informal sharing on the final day at 4pm. It's free to take part, and the venues in the city centre are still to be confirmed.
