Spoken word show by Shaun Ryder, frontman of Happy Mondays and Black Grape, touring in support of his new book.
Shaun Ryder is coming to The Tivoli Theatre on Thursday 12 November, with the show starting at 7:30 pm. It's a spoken word night, so this isn't a Happy Mondays gig — it's Ryder on stage talking rather than singing.
If you're not familiar with the name, he's the frontman of Happy Mondays and Black Grape, the two bands that put him at the centre of the Madchester scene. He's been called the 'wild man of rock' who helped redefine the sex'n'drugs'n'rock'n'roll lifestyle of that era, and he's since become something of a national treasure. Beyond the music, he's a regular on television, with appearances on Celebrity Gogglebox and I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here.
This tour is in support of his new book, Happy Mondays - and Fridays and Saturdays and Sundays, and the show itself is a spoken word piece. He's been described as Britpop's answer to WB Yeats, which gives you a rough idea of the territory he's working in here — it's more about the storytelling than the songs. If you've followed his career, it's a chance to hear him talk through the years and the stories that come with them.
