Victoria Crowe's paintings of Orkney are projected with Gemma McGregor's musical composition in an immersive session marking the Sound! festival.
Victoria Crowe and Gemma McGregor bring Orkney Sequence to Cowdray Hall at the Aberdeen Art Gallery on Friday 23 October, from 3:00pm to 4:30pm. It's a collaboration between the two: Crowe's paintings projected on screen, accompanied by a new musical composition by McGregor. The two artists created the work together as a celebration of Orkney's summer and winter solstices, and the session is built around that same pairing of image and sound.
There's more to the afternoon than just the projection. The session includes an illustrated talk by Crowe and McGregor, a film screening of Orkney Sequence, and a Q&A where they'll talk through the work. After that, Crowe will be signing copies of The Orkney Works, published by the RSA and the Piers Arts Centre. The whole thing runs as part of Aberdeen's soundfestival, which fills the city with sound from 22 to 31 October, and it's presented in association with Aberdeen Archives, Gallery & Museums.
