Celtic music quartet led by fiddle virtuoso Duncan Chisholm, with flute player Michael McGoldrick, tenor banjo master Gerry O'Connor and guitarist Tony Byrne.
Duncan Chisholm, Michael McGoldrick, Gerry O'Connor and Tony Byrne play the Music Hall on Thursday 5 November, bringing together four of the most influential voices in Celtic music for a single night in Aberdeen. It's a quartet that pulls from both sides of the Irish Sea, with Scottish fiddle and Irish flute, banjo and guitar sharing the stage.
Duncan Chisholm is the Scottish fiddle virtuoso of the group, known for an expressive, cinematic style and award-winning compositions that bridge ancient tradition and contemporary creativity. He's joined by Michael McGoldrick, widely regarded as the finest Irish flute player of his generation, a founding member of Lúnasa and a long-time collaborator with Capercaillie and Mark Knopfler. Irish tenor banjo master Gerry O'Connor adds his unmistakable flair, known worldwide for his inventive playing and for his work with groups such as Four Men and a Dog and The Dubliners, and described as the defining voice of the Irish tenor banjo. Dublin guitarist Tony Byrne completes the ensemble with rhythmic, soulful accompaniment.
Between them, they cover a lot of ground. Chisholm brings the Scottish fiddle tradition, McGoldrick the Irish flute, and O'Connor the tenor banjo, with Byrne's guitar holding the rhythm together. It's a line-up that gathers players who have spent their careers working across some of the most well-known names in Celtic music, from Lúnasa and Capercaillie to The Dubliners and Mark Knopfler.
