A self-guided trail of ice sculptures inspired by history and folklore, with the theme 'Legends Unleashed', encouraging visitors to explore York's shops and attractions.
The York Ice Trail returns to the city on 6 and 7 February 2027, starting from 10:30am. It's a self-guided trail of ice sculptures dotted around York, each one inspired by history and folklore, with every piece offering something new to discover. This year's edition runs under the theme 'Legends Unleashed', bringing legendary stories and characters to life across the city.
It's a Make It York event, and the format is simple: you wander from one sculpture to the next at your own pace, rather than following a set schedule. The sculptures are spread across the city centre, so you can make as much or as little of a day as you like. Between the stops, the trail encourages you to warm up in the city's cafés, restaurants, shops and attractions, which makes it an easy thing to fit around your usual weekend.

The Visit York Visitor Information Centre is on hand throughout the weekend and provides an exclusive trail map to help you find each piece. It's completely free of charge, so there's no ticket to book in advance—you just turn up and start walking. The trail opens at 10:30am on both Saturday and Sunday, 6 and 7 February, across the city.
