A one-man show where Tim Marriott performs as an old soldier recounting a tale of buried secrets, betrayal and death in London in 1894.
Tim Marriott brings Watson: The Final Problem to the Friargate Theatre on Saturday 12 September. It's a one-man show that reimagines Dr Watson as an old soldier recounting a tale of buried secrets, betrayal and death in London in 1894. Marriott writes and performs the role himself, so it's just him on stage telling the story.
The play was written and directed by Bert Coules, and it's produced by Twilight Theatre Company and Smokescreen Productions — the latter being the company Marriott set up to make contemporary, issue-based theatre in association with charities. The production has picked up some strong praise along the way, with critics calling Marriott's performance 'impeccable' and 'captivating', and the sound design and direction getting a fair bit of attention too.
