The UK Film Production Summit returns to York as a meeting point for production companies, commissioners and creative organisations, held within the Aesthetica Short Film Festival.
The UK Film Production Summit is back in York on Thursday 5 November, taking place at The Grand. It's now in its second year, and the idea is simple: it's a meeting point for more than 150 production companies, commissioners, development executives and creative organisations. It comes at a time when the established models of production and distribution are undergoing profound change, so it's as much about talking through where things are heading as it is about the business of making films.
The Summit doesn't stand on its own, though. It sits inside the Aesthetica Short Film Festival, an international competition founded in 2011 by Aesthetica Magazine and hosted with support from York St John University, London College of Communication and the British Film Institute. It's a BAFTA-qualifying festival for British short films, and it's grown quite a bit since it started as the Aesthetica Short Film Competition, when the winning films were released on a DVD with the magazine's December/January issue. These days it's more than 400 films and 100 industry events, with dedicated strands for fashion, VR and a Games Lab.

Because it's part of the wider festival, there's plenty more going on around the city at the same time. The Summit runs alongside the Aesthetica Art Prize at York Art Gallery and the UNESCO City of Media Arts EXPO, so if you're in town for the day, you can easily fit in a gallery visit or a look at the expo. The Summit itself is on Thursday 5 November at The Grand.
