Immersive guided tour through the history of chocolate with tastings and hands-on Halloween truffle making.
York's Chocolate Story is running its Tour & Halloween Truffle Rolling from 12 October to 1 November, and it's a good shout if you're after something to do with the family over the half-term. The museum is an immersive one, and this session combines its usual guided tour with a bit of hands-on making.
The first part is the Classic Guided Tour, which takes about an hour and a quarter and walks you through the history of chocolate, with tastings along the way. After that, there's an extra 15 minutes where you get to roll your own truffles and decorate them with Halloween toppings, then personalise and package them up to take home. The whole thing runs for roughly an hour and a half, so it's a fair chunk of an afternoon.
It's one of a few spooky things the museum has on at the same time. There's the Trick or Treat Trek, a guided ghost tour through York's darker streets led by the characters Count Fectionary and Miss Terry, with chocolate samples and a prize for the best-dressed Halloween costume. And if you're after something more technical, there's a Halloween Chocolate Masterclass led by an expert. If you're in the city for the half-term, you could easily pair a couple of them up.

Tickets are £27 for adults, £25 for children, and under-fours go in for free. The Tour & Halloween Truffle Rolling runs from 12 October through to 1 November at York's Chocolate Story.
