The Creative Exchange is a free business consultancy event running across two days as part of York Fashion Week. It's a new addition to the programme, set up by York Fashion Week to make industry expertise a bit easier to get hold of. The format is simple: you book a ten-minute one-to-one session with a small group of fashion professionals and spend that time picking their brains on the practical side of building a fashion business. It's not a talk or a workshop; it's a direct conversation with people who've actually done it.
One of the best things about it is how wide the net is cast. It's open to people at every stage of their career, so you'll find students and freelancers alongside established retailers and aspiring models. Whether you're just starting out or you've been at it for years, it's a chance to get a professional take on the things that usually only get discussed behind closed doors. Mark Bewick, co-director of York Fashion Week, describes it as a way of sharing real-world experience, and that's exactly what it is: ten minutes of focused, one-on-one time with someone who knows the industry.

The event is supported by the York and North Yorkshire Mayor David Skaith and the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority through their High Street Fund, which helps keep it free for everyone. It runs on two separate days in two different parts of the city, so you can pick the one that fits your schedule best. The first session is on Saturday 25 July from 11am to 1pm at Spark York, and the second is on Wednesday 30 July from 6pm to 8pm at Another Brother Café. Both are free to attend.
