SpeedQuizzing at The Three Legged Mare

SpeedQuizzing is back at The Three Legged Mare on Wednesday 15 July, part of the weekly quiz night the pub runs every Wednesday at 8:00pm. It's hosted by Mike Brooke, and if you've never been, it's a bit different from your standard pen-and-paper pub quiz. Instead of scribbling answers on a sheet, you use a keypad to enter them, which keeps things moving and cuts out the long pauses while the quizmaster reads through everyone's handwriting.

The questions cover general knowledge, so you don't need to be a specialist in any one thing to get stuck in. It's fast-paced, with the speed element playing a part too — the quicker you get the answer in, the more points you can pick up. You can play in teams of up to six, so it's easy to pull together a group of friends or colleagues and see how you stack up against the other tables. There are prizes, drinks and cash up for grabs, which gives the whole thing a bit more of a competitive edge than your average mid-week night out.

Because it runs every Wednesday, it's a good one to keep in the back of your mind for when you fancy a night out in town without having to plan far in advance. If you miss this one, there's another the following week, and another after that. It's a steady fixture on the York calendar rather than a one-off, so you can just turn up when it suits you.
