SpeedQuizzing at The Old Bank

SpeedQuizzing is back at The Old Bank on Sunday 26 July, with Shaun from LSI Entertainment hosting the night. If you've never come across it, it's a bit different from your usual pub quiz: instead of scribbling answers on a scrap of paper and passing them to the front, everyone uses their own smartphone or tablet as a buzzer. You're playing against the rest of the room in real time, and the faster you get the answer in, the more points you bag. It turns a standard quiz into something closer to a game show, and since you're all playing on your own screens, there's no waiting around for the next round to be read out.

It's a format LSI Entertainment runs all over York, so it's a regular part of the city's social calendar. They hold nights at a handful of different spots across town — The Old White Swan, The Ackhorne, SoJo Bistro, and Brew York are all on the list — and each one is run by a different host from the LSI team. Shaun is taking the reins for this one, and since it's a free-to-play night, you can just turn up and get involved without having to commit to anything beforehand.

The Old Bank is at 6-12 Lendal, YO1 8AA, right in the heart of the city. The session runs from 8:00pm to 11:00pm, so it's a full evening's worth of rounds rather than a quick one. Just make sure your phone is charged and you've got a bit of data or Wi-Fi to hand, as that's your buzzer for the night. It's free to play, and it runs from 8:00pm to 11:00pm.
