SpeedQuizzing is back at Social 8 on Monday 27 July, with Mike Brooke hosting the night from 8:00pm to 11:00pm. It's free to play, so you just need to turn up with a team — max six people per side — and your smartphones ready to go.
If you've never come across it, SpeedQuizzing is a smartphone-based pub quiz format that started in 2004, created by brothers Alan and John. It's grown into a bit of a global phenomenon since then, billing itself as the 'No.1 smartphone pub quiz' and 'Made in York. Played Everywhere.' The 'speed' part is exactly what it sounds like: you answer on your phone, and the faster you get it right, the more points you score, which keeps things moving and stops the night from dragging.
It's a proper York staple, too. There are over 30 quiz nights held weekly across the city, so it's one of those things you'll see popping up in pubs and bars all over town. Most of them follow a similar setup — small teams of six to eight players, and a range of prizes on the line, from cash and bar tabs to food and drink vouchers. This one is no different, with prizes and drink vouchers up for grabs for the winning teams.
