A self-guided interactive treasure hunt and exploration game exploring York's city centre streets, played through the Go Quest Adventures app at your own pace.
Go Quest Adventures has a self-guided treasure hunt running through York city centre, and the best bit is that it's open every day of the year. There's no set start or end time, so you just pick your own day and set off when you're ready — they suggest starting somewhere between 10am and 5pm. The whole thing is played through the Go Quest Adventures app, and since it's self-guided, you can take it at your own pace without any one pushing you along.
The route kicks off at the Yorkshire Museum Gardens on Museum Street, by the remains of St Mary's Abbey, and from there it winds through the city's historic walls, its narrow snickelways, the famous Shambles, and back towards the Minster. Along the way, you pick up insider history and a few fun facts that you'd probably miss if you were just walking the same old route. You might cross paths with York's secret cats, hear about a quirky collector, find where Roald Dahl drew some of his inspiration, and pick up a ghost story or two in one of the most haunted cities in Europe.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in York and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

It's pitched as an outdoor activity for couples, families, groups of friends, and school groups, and it works for team-building or corporate days too. The whole thing is wheelchair accessible, and service animals are welcome. It's listed as running from 1 September 2025 to 31 December 2028, so there's plenty of time to fit it in whenever suits you best. Tickets are £28 per person.
