Annual charity sleepout raising funds and awareness for homeless young people at the Churchill Tyres Lawn, run by SASH (Safe and Sound Homes).
SASH are back at York Racecourse on Friday 16 October for their annual sleepout, a night spent outdoors in a sleeping bag under the stars to raise awareness for youth homelessness across York and the surrounding areas. It's an event that's become a bit of a fixture in the city's calendar, and this year it's taking place on the Churchill Tyres Lawn.
There's more to it than just sleeping outside, though. The evening brings together people from across the community to draw attention to the issue, and every pound raised goes towards funding accommodation and support services for young people in the region. It's a concrete way to get behind a cause that often stays out of sight, and doing it alongside a crowd of like-minded people makes it feel less like a solo effort and more like a collective one.
SASH, or Safe and Sound Homes, is a Yorkshire organisation that runs a whole range of events, runs, challenges and fundraisers to support youth homelessness initiatives across the region. This sleepout is one of their bigger annual dates, and the money it raises goes directly into the practical side of things โ the actual housing and support that young people in the community need.

The evening starts at 7pm on Friday 16 October and runs until 11:30pm, with the sleepout itself continuing through the night until around 7am on Saturday 17 October. It's held at York Racecourse, The Racecourse, Knavesmire Road, York YO23 1EX. If you're planning to join in, you'll want to bring your own sleeping bag and be ready for a night out in the open.
