Open Days at York St John University

York St John University is opening its doors to prospective students on Tuesday 30 June, from 9.15am to 3.30pm. It's an open day, so the whole point is to get you on campus and let you see the place for yourself. If you're thinking about an undergraduate degree and want to get a feel for the university before you commit, this is exactly the kind of day for that.

There's no single thing to do; you make your own way through it. You can take a tour of the campus, walk through the accommodation to see where you'd actually be living, and sit in on course talks with the academic staff who'd be teaching you. There are also drop-in sessions with the support staff, so you can ask the practical questions that don't always fit into a course brochure. The full timetable of talks, tours and sessions usually comes out about two weeks before the day, so you'll have a bit of time to plan your route around the campus.

It's worth hearing how it lands with people who've already been. Amber, who studies Biomedical Science, says visiting both the open days and the decision days was how she knew the place was right for her. Ryan, in English Literature, talks about the atmosphere being so positive and inspiring that he felt like a student before he'd even started. And Jennifer, in Counselling, puts it simply: "Immediately I felt at home. Everyone was kind and welcoming."

It's a free event, but you do need to book your place through the form on the university's website. You can bring guests along with you without having to fill out the form separately for each person, and you'll get a confirmation email within ten minutes of booking. If the end of June doesn't work, there's another open day on Saturday 15 August, running on the same 9.15am to 3.30pm schedule.
