A guided ghost hunt experience at Barley Hall, where participants help paranormal investigators track down spirits in a temporarily closed historic building.
Haunted Hall: Ghost Hunters! runs at Barley Hall from Saturday 24 October to Saturday 31 October, a guided ghost hunt that takes over the hall for a week. It's put on by the York Ghost Merchants, and the whole thing is built around a bit of a story: they've framed it as a response to a sudden surge in paranormal activity at Barley Hall, which they say sits on a paranormal nexus where the boundary between our world and the spirit world is at its thinnest.
According to the Merchants, the hall has been temporarily closed while their paranormal investigators work to contain the outbreak, and they're recruiting trainee ghost hunters to help track down the troublesome spirits. You don't need any previous ghost-hunting experience to join in — just courage. It's aimed at families and brave hunters aged six and up, with a maximum of 15 children and 15 adults per tour, and no more than one adult per child.

Each tour lasts 45 minutes, and they run daily throughout the week at 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:30, 14:30 and 15:30, so there's plenty of choice if you're working or around the kids. Tickets are £15.50 for children and £5.50 for adults. You'll find Barley Hall at 2 Coffee Yard, Stonegate, YO1 8AR, right in the heart of the city.
