A family-friendly Halloween magic experience at The Hole In Wand, featuring wizard-themed mini golf and a fortune-telling wheel to discover your fate.
The Hole In Wand is running its Halloween special from 10 October to 1 November, so it's a good shout for a family outing during the half-term. The venue is in the Coppergate Shopping Centre at 14-16 Coppergate Walk, YO1 9NT, right in the middle of the city.
If you haven't been, it's a wizard-themed mini golf course with nine holes. You dodge bubbling cauldrons, step through magical portals, and there's a giant picture frame you can hang yourself in to become part of the painting. Trainee wizards can try casting a 'Light Spell' to illuminate the course's darkest hole, and the round is peppered with tales of York's own wizarding lore, including the search for Grobblenook, the potion-brewing gargoyle. Every player leaves with a free magic potion gift, and the experience finishes at The Wand & Tankard, the venue's wizard-inspired tavern, where you can pick up a Cauldron Cake or a Butterbeer.

The Halloween edition adds a spin of the wheel to decide your fate: fortune, a mysterious challenge, or a bit of magical mischief. It's played as a family-friendly adventure without the scares, so it works for younger kids who aren't quite ready for a proper haunted house. The whole thing runs from 10 October to 1 November, so you've got a few weeks to fit it in.
