A late-night horror and comedy experience for adults only, featuring special effects, storytelling, and audience participation in five themed areas.
The York Dungeon is running Dungeon Lates this Saturday 27 June, an adults-only night tour that takes the usual experience into the dark. It's strictly 18+, so you won't find any kids in the mix here. The whole thing is built around a mix of theatre, special effects and storytelling, with a good dose of humour running through it. They describe it as a night of terror and comedy, and they're not shy about the sensory side of things: expect darkness, loud noises, sprays, smells and explosions, with the audience getting pulled into the action rather than just watching from the sidelines.

The tour takes you through five themed areas. You'll encounter the Vikings, a plague house with the Doctor's assistant, a séance, a courtroom and the torture chamber of York Castle, plus a scene featuring a highwayman. It's a walk-through experience, and the storytelling is what carries you from one room to the next, so it's as much about the narrative as it is about the effects. The whole thing runs for about 60 to 75 minutes, and tours set off every ten minutes until the last entry, so you're not waiting around in a huge queue before you get started.
It's a paid event, and they've put out a fair warning that it's not for the faint-hearted. Tickets are £27.50 per person, and if you've got a pass, it drops to £22.50. That covers the night tour and also gets you free entry to Circuit, the dance club, so you can keep the night going after you've come back up for air. The tour starts at 18:30 on Saturdays, and since it's 18+ only, it's one of the few times the Dungeon is just for adults.
