Dog Day

Dog Day is coming to the Himalayan Garden & Sculpture Park on Sunday 6 September, from 10am to 4pm. It's a family day run in partnership with Positively Canine, built around celebrating the bond between people and their pets while raising awareness and funds for the Lost Dog Tracking Network, a charity whose volunteers train to reunite missing dogs with their owners.

There's a fair bit to get stuck into throughout the day. A Fun Dog Show is judged across categories like Dapper Dogs, Puppy Pizzazz and Rocking Rescues, so there's a spot for the well-groomed, the young and the rescued. You can try Hoopers low-impact agility, enter the Gun Dog Scurry, and meet scent dogs in action. There's also a Dog Wellness Area staffed by experts if you'd rather just hang out and chat about looking after your dog.

The day sits within the garden's 2026 Sculptures in the Landscape exhibition, a seven-month showcase that spreads contemporary art across 45 acres of woodland and gardens. It runs alongside the park's permanent collection of 90 sculptures, which includes nine large pieces by Michael Lyons, a founding member of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and Vice-President of the Royal British Society of Sculptors. So, between the dog activities, you've got plenty of space to walk around with your dog and see the art.

Normal garden entry applies, and you'll need cash on hand for the dog activities. The park is near Grewelthorpe, just outside York, and the whole thing runs from 10am to 4pm on Sunday 6 September.
