A candlelit trail for families with younger children to find mice and win a chocolate prize, part of the Little York Ghost Hunt.
Holy Trinity Goodramgate is hosting the Candlelit Mouse Hunt on Monday 26 October, from 6pm to 8.30pm. It's a free event, though donations are welcome, and you can come and go as you please during those hours, so there's no need to rush in right at the start.
The hunt is part of the York Ghost Merchant's Little York Ghost Hunt, a wider trail running across the city during York Ghost Week. This particular stop is set up as a break for families with younger children who are working their way through the rest of the hunt. The main body of the church is lit by candlelight, and they describe it as always atmospheric and full of history. Once inside, you grab a torch and set out to find all the mice hidden around the space; find them all and you win a chocolate prize before heading back out to continue the rest of the Ghost Hunt.
If you're in the area around that time, it's worth knowing that Holy Trinity is playing host to something quite different shortly after. On 1 November, the church becomes the venue for The Keening with Olivia Graham, a one-hour Celtic-folk performance of songs of mourning and remembrance. It's a stark contrast to the mouse hunt, but it's the same building, so if you're already familiar with the place from the 26th, you'll know where to find it.
