Bike Register Event

The local Neighbourhood Policing Team are running a couple of free bike register sessions in York over the next few days, and if you've been meaning to get yours sorted, this is a good chance to do it. The first is on Sunday 26 July from 10.30am to 12pm outside the Little Yorkshire Coffee Co at The Knavesmire, and the second is on Tuesday 28 July from 10am to noon outside the Super Sustainable Centre in Derwenthorpe. Both are free, so you just need to roll up with your bike.

The main thing they're doing is registering your bike on a national database. If it ever does go missing, having it on there makes it a lot easier for the police to return it to you, and it's one of those things you only ever wish you'd done after the fact. While you're there, they'll also give your bike free security marking, which is a visible deterrent and helps identify it if it's recovered. It's a straightforward process that doesn't take long, and it's all handled on the spot.

Beyond the registration and marking, the officers will be on hand to give cycle security advice, so if you're not sure which lock to buy or how to secure your bike properly when you're out and about, you can ask them. It's also a chance to have a chat with them about community safety in general, so if there's something on your mind about the local area, you can bring it up while they're working on your bike.

Between the two dates, you've got a choice of location and time: Sunday 26 July, 10.30am to 12pm at The Knavesmire, or Tuesday 28 July, 10am to noon at the Super Sustainable Centre in Derwenthorpe. Both are free, and you just need to bring your bike along.
