Melton's Restaurant: Modern British Fine Dining in York

Located at 7 Scarcroft Road in York, YO23 1ND, close to the Bishy Road area, Melton's Restaurant has been serving fine dining options since June 1990. Opened by Chef Proprietor Michael Hjort—who trained under the Roux brothers—and his wife Lucy, the kitchen is currently led by Head Chef Calvin Miller, who has been part of the team for over 14 years. The dining room offers modern British food in a relaxed and unpretentious environment.

The menu focuses on seasonal and local Yorkshire produce using modern kitchen techniques. Currently, they offer a three-course lunch for £85, which includes canapés, homemade breads, and filtered water, as well as a seven-course tasting menu priced at £98. Notable options on their menu include starters like the Asparagus Tart, Hand Dived Scallop Ceviche, Wight Island tomatoes with black garlic, and garden pea tart with Iberico ham. For main dishes, choices include Wild Garlic Gnocchi and East Coast Cod, finished with desserts such as their Chocolate Soufflé. Lucy Hjort curates an extensive wine list featuring over 150 selections to pair with the meals.

Melton's holds three AA Rosettes as of September 2025 and maintains a rating of 5 in the Good Food Guide, alongside an inclusion in the Michelin Guide.
