Guide to Live at York Museum Gardens 2026

The summer concert series Live at York Museum Gardens is returning next week, running from Thursday 9th July 2026 to Sunday 12th July 2026. Organized by the Leeds-based Futuresound Group in collaboration with the York Museums Trust, this event transforms the historic 10-acre botanical site into an open-air music venue. Established in the 1830s by the Yorkshire Philosophical Society and designed by landscape architect Sir John Murray Naysmith, the gardens are a central part of York's heritage, featuring landmarks like the medieval ruins of St Mary’s Abbey, the 14th-century Hospitium, and ancient Roman structures. While general entry to the gardens is free during their daily hours of 9:00 to 18:00, these evening concerts require tickets and offer a unique way to experience the space after hours.

This year's lineup brings a distinct mix of genres across the four days. On Thursday 9th July, synth-pop pioneers Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) headline the stage, supported by Heaven 17, China Crisis, and Andrew Cushin. Gates open at 5:00pm, with last entry at 8:30pm and a curfew of 10:30pm. Friday 10th July shifts to contemporary indie and pop, headlined by Self Esteem (Rebecca Lucy Taylor), who recently starred in Teeth 'n' Smiles at the Duke of York's Theatre and released her third album A Complicated Woman in 2025. She will be joined by The Big Moon, Moonchild Sanelly, and Joshua Idehen under the same gate and curfew times. Saturday 11th July features Welsh art-rock legends Super Furry Animals, who returned to activity this year with their album Precreation Percolation. Their supporting lineup includes Baxter Dury, Los Campesinos!, Divorce, and Pys Melyn, with gates opening slightly earlier at 4:00pm.

Sunday 12th July wraps up the weekend with the York Comedy Festival, bringing a packed afternoon of stand-up starting with gates at 3:00pm. The lineup features Russell Howard, Ross Noble, Joanne McNally, Russell Kane, Suzi Ruffell, Barry from Watford, Jeff Innocent, and Nabil Abdulrashid, all hosted by MC Jarred Christmas. Set times run from Nabil Abdulrashid at 4:20pm through to Russell Howard's closing set from 9:30pm to 10:00pm. If you are planning to attend any of the dates, keep in mind that the event is standing-only, so chairs, blankets, and portable furniture are not allowed. The site is cashless, and there is no readmittance once you leave. You can bring one empty or sealed water bottle up to 500ml, but outside food and other drinks are prohibited.

For travel, the gardens are about half a mile from York Train Station. While there is no parking at the venue, the city's Park & Ride services are running, including an extra bus for Route No. 2 from Museum Street to Grimston Bar departing at 22:45. The main box office is on Museum Street, while those with premium tickets will enter via Exhibition Square to access a dedicated hang-out zone and standing platform.
