Three-round spoken word poetry competition in which poets perform original work and are scored by judges selected from the audience.
The Ybor City Poetry Slam is coming to The Commodore on Saturday, October 24, from 7 PM to 10 PM. It's a three-round spoken word competition presented by GrowHouse LLC, and it's staged right in the historic streets of Ybor City.
The format is what sets this apart from a typical poetry reading. Poets perform original work and are scored by judges selected at random from the audience. That one detail changes the whole energy of the roomโinstead of just listening, you're part of the jury, and the poets have to win over the people sitting right in front of them. It turns the evening into a competition rather than a recital.
GrowHouse describes it as more than just a poetry event: a community coming together to celebrate creativity, self-expression and the power of words. The whole thing runs about three hours, so you'll get several poets through multiple rounds of performance.
