Screening of Guillermo del Toro's film 'The Shape of Water' at the Historic Duncan Auditorium of the Tampa Theatre.
The Shape of Water is playing at the Historic Duncan Auditorium on Monday, October 26, as part of the Tampa Theatre's programming. It's a 2017 film written and directed by Guillermo del Toro, and it runs two hours and three minutes. It's rated R.
The story follows Elisa, played by Sally Hawkins, a janitor who communicates through sign language and works in a secret government facility in Baltimore. While there, she discovers a strange amphibious creature—played by Doug Jones—and forms an unlikely bond with it. The creature bears a strong resemblance to the monster from The Creature from the Black Lagoon, and del Toro describes the film as a spiritual sequel and a fan-fiction take on that classic horror movie. It's a monster movie inspired by horror that earned its place in his filmography.
